An Ancestral Mayan Elopement in Tulum
Xitlaly and Nicolas chose a sacred cenote surrounded by the Tulum jungle for their ancestral Mayan elopement. The natural setting, dense vegetation and tranquil water created an intimate atmosphere for a celebration centered on their connection, spirituality and local tradition.
The couple wore coordinated white attire that complemented the organic colors of the forest. Their guests and the ceremonial participants also dressed in white, creating a sense of visual harmony throughout the gathering. From the beginning, we focused on documenting the atmosphere naturally while preserving the meaningful details of the experience.
A Sacred Ceremony Surrounded by Nature
Guided by Mayan spiritual practitioners, Xitlaly and Nicolas participated in a ceremony filled with symbolic gestures, music and moments of reflection. Smoke, fire, ceremonial objects and traditional instruments became part of the visual story, while the surrounding trees gave the gathering a private and peaceful character.
Family and friends observed the ceremony from woven mats and wooden platforms within the forest. We photographed the rituals, the couple’s reactions and the interactions between everyone present without interrupting the natural progression of the ceremony.
Cenote and Jungle Wedding Portraits
After the ceremony, we created portraits of Xitlaly and Nicolas along the forest paths and beside the cenote. Their white clothing stood out against the dark greenery, water and textured natural surroundings.
Some photographs concentrate on quiet embraces and subtle expressions, while others incorporate movement, sunlight filtering through the trees and the atmospheric shadows of the jungle. The contrast between intimate portraits and documentary moments allowed us to tell a complete and authentic story of their wedding day.
